Supplemental 9: Joan of Arc Part 4 – The Myth

The Trial of Joan of Arc, by Louis Maurice Boutet de Monvel, painted in 1909, coinciding with the Beatification of Joan of Arc. Joan would be made a Saint of the Roman Catholic Church in 1920.

Joan of Arc is gone, but she certainly is not forgotten. In this episode we’ll explore the legend of Joan of Arc as well as the legacy of the Maid.

Left: A contemporary depiction of Joan of Arc, although one likely made by someone who never met Joan on account of the dress. Center: A sculpture of Joan of Arc at Versailles as sculpted by the French Princess Marie d’Orleans in 1837. Right: Joan of Arc as illustrated by Albert Lynch in 1903.
