Supplemental 6: The Rapondi Company and Ducal Finance

Dino Rapondi and his brother Giacomo are shown here praying at the Holy Face of Lucca, an important religious site in their hometown. However, Dino and his brothers spent relatively little time in Lucca, and instead made their fortunes in Bruges and Paris.

The Rapondi were Philip the Bold and John the Fearless’ favorite bankers. They funded everything from the day-to-day operations of the Burgundian Court to the Nicopolis Crusade to John’s armies in the Civil War.
